Since their second circulatory system is inactive as children, Rica was unaware she was Hannarian until she was twelve. At the onset of her abilities, she began to have severe headaches and felt overwhelmed from her senses. The situation reached the point where school on Earth was going to be impossible for her, so Charlie convinced Rebecca to move to Space Station Destiny.
On their way to the station, Rica and Rebecca run into Jernard—who is quick to realize that Rica is somehow related to him and that there’s more to the “coincidence” that his best friend of thirty years adopted her.
Rica is friendly and extremely curious--learning quickly how to use her abilities to eavesdrop. She's also been very sheltered and tends to look at things with a "fairy-tale" perspective.
